Welcoming a new baby is an exciting time for families!
But pregnancy and the months following birth can bring questions, challenges and moments when extra support can make a big difference.
UIHS Tribal Perinatal Support Services provides compassionate, culturally grounded support for American Indian birthing people and their families throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum. The program recognizes that caring for a growing family means supporting the whole person and strengthening connections to family, community and culture.
Support Along the Journey
Every pregnancy and every family is different. Tribal Perinatal Support Services offers personalized, one-on-one support based on the needs of each client and family.

Sometimes that means helping someone navigate healthcare or connecting them with a UIHS provider. Other times, it may mean helping a family find transportation, food, housing resources, or other services that can make life easier.
The program can also connect clients with medical, dental and vision services, Traditional Healing and other resources available through UIHS. Throughout the process, clients have someone who can help answer questions and provide guidance as they make decisions for themselves and their babies.
Culture, Family and Community

Pregnancy and birth have always been about more than healthcare. They are also about family, community, tradition and welcoming the next generation. Tribal Perinatal Support Services honors those connections by incorporating traditional practices and cultural teachings into care when desired by the client and family. By providing care that recognizes culture as an important part of health and wellness, UIHS can support families in ways that respect who they are and the communities they come from.
Caring for Emotional Wellness
Pregnancy and the postpartum period can bring many emotional changes as well. Asking for support during these times is an important part of caring for yourself and your family.
Tribal Perinatal Support Services can also help connect clients with Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder services, including culturally aware care and programs available through UIHS.

Whether someone needs additional emotional support, assistance navigating services or someone to help determine the next step, the Tribal Perinatal Support program can help make those connections.
Here for You and Your Family
At its heart, Tribal Perinatal Support Services is about making sure families don’t have to navigate pregnancy, birth and postpartum alone.
This program is here to connect clients with healthcare resources and to walk alongside families during an important time in their lives.

By supporting parents and strengthening families, we also help support the health and wellbeing of the generations to come.
