Breathe Free at UIHS
Beginning July 31, 2026 UIHS is Becoming Commercial Tobacco-Free
Making changes around commercial tobacco can feel overwhelming. You don’t have to do this alone.
As of July 31, 2026, United Indian Health Services will become a Commercial Tobacco-Free organization. Commercial Tobacco including cigarettes and vaping products will not be permitted at UIHS clinics.
This step reflects our commitment to protecting the health of our patients, staff, families, and future generations. Our approach is rooted in care, respect, and community. This policy focuses on commercial tobacco use.
We honor the sacred and traditional use of tobacco.
For Our Community
For over 35 years, UIHS commercial tobacco prevention efforts in Humboldt and Del Norte counties have worked in partnership with tribal and community members to reduce commercial tobacco-related illness and early death among American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
Everyone deserves access to care, understanding, and support to go commercial tobacco-free. If you’re not sure where to begin, we’ll help you take the next step and connect you to evidence-based, culturally respectful cessation resources that support long-term health and wellbeing.
