The UIHS Pharmacy team has had an exciting year of growth, progress, and transition. On August 5, the team moved into its newly renovated pharmacy space, designed to meet current pharmacy standards while providing the additional room needed for its expanded team.

Since opening at Potawot Health Villa ge in 2001, the Pharmacy department has grown significantly. Today, the department includes 10 dedicated employees who work together to provide safe, efficient, and accessible medication services to UIHS clients. Their work is an important part of the care clients receive, helping them manage chronic conditions, recover from illness, and maintain their overall health and wellness.

The pharmacy currently fills over 90,000 prescriptions each year and often over 500 in a single day. It also mails and delivers hundreds of packages each day. The team has continued to meet this growing demand while maintaining stable staffing throughout the year, demonstrating the teamwork, training, and efficiency that keep pharmacy operations running smoothly.

Looking ahead, the pharmacy is in the middle of a 9-month project to implement Epic Willow, which will work in tandem with our existing Epic EHR. When Willow goes live in December, it will greatly improve client care. In the past, the Pharmacy and Medical departments used different software programs that were not integrated. Now that both departments are on the same Epic system, communication between the two departments will improve..

With a dedicated team, a newly renovated space, and important projects on the horizon, the Pharmacy team remains focused on making sure clients have access to the medications and support they need.
