What is Nephrology? How can it help you?
Dr. Satpreet Sekhon, Dr. Inderpreet Sekhon, and PA-C Nicole Alvarado are delighted to bring nephrology services to UIHS! Starting March 2026, the team has begun to deliver excellent care in all things kidney-related to Humboldt County, and soon to Del Norte County. Services include: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) management, nephrology consultations, dialysis care coordination, inpatient nephrology support, home dialysis support and education, kidney transplant evaluation support and coordination, hypertension and complex kidney disease management, and more.
Taking care of your kidneys is very important, especially in persons with diabetes. Many people with CKD have no symptoms and thus may not know they have it. That is why it is important to ask your Preferred Care Provider (PCP) if your lab values may indicate early CKD and get referred to a nephrologist ASAP to help prevent further progression.
A message from the doctors:
At Insat Health (https://insathealth.com), our mission is to improve access to high-quality kidney care through a combination of in-person and telehealth services, especially for rural and underserved communities. We focus on delivering compassionate, patient-centered nephrology care while helping patients remain closer to home whenever possible.
A major focus of our work is reducing barriers to specialty kidney care for patients living in remote or underserved regions. Through telemedicine and collaborative partnerships with local healthcare teams, we aim to improve outcomes, reduce unnecessary travel, and provide timely specialty support.
Dr. Satpreet Sekhon, MD., is co-founder and co-Chief Executive Officer of Insat Health. He has practiced in all facets of nephrology for more than 19 years. He’s worked in home-dialysis, dialysis, and both in-person and tele-nephrology.
Dr. Inderpreet Sekhon, MD., is a board-certified nephrologist and healthcare leader with extensive experience in kidney disease management, dialysis care, and tele-nephrology services. He serves as Section Chief of Nephrology at VA Northern California Health Care System and is actively involved in advancing innovative models of kidney care delivery for rural and underserved populations. His work focuses on improving access to nephrology care through technology, care coordination, and patient-centered solutions.
The main face of the nephrology team in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties is physician assistant Nicole Alvarado, PA-C. She is a bright, compassionate healthcare provider who initially took an interest in nephrology after donating one of her own kidneys. Through direct mentorship from Dr. Satpreet Sekhon, Nicole has developed a keen mind for nephrology care. She is new to northern California but is already falling in love with the beautiful scenery and wonderful people. She is excited to meet you and to help you take care of your kidneys.
