Lemon Balm Glycerite Recipe

This tincture offers support to uplift your heart during times of grief, heartache, and depression. Along with all the wonderful healing benefits this tincture offers, it holds the delicious herbal lemon balm flavor with a slight sweetness from the glycerin.

Because this is a non-alcohol-based tincture, it’s great for children and people who prefer not to use alcohol-based products.

To make the glycerite: Use a food processor or blender to chop your fresh lemon balm. Pack a wide-mouth glass jar three-quarters full with chopped lemon balm. Prepare a 3:1 glycerin-to-distilled water solution. Pour the liquid solution over the fresh herbs, filling the jar. Cover, then let sit for 3 to 4 weeks in a warm spot out of direct sunlight. Store at room temperature. The glycerite should keep for around 6 months.

To use: Take 1-2 droppers full (½ to 1 teaspoon) as needed to uplift your heart during times of grief, heartache, and depression.

Grow your own: Lemon balm is a hardy, easy-to-grow herb that does especially well in the cool coastal climate of Humboldt and Del Norte counties. It prefers rich, well-drained soil and grows best in areas with morning sun and light afternoon shade, though it can tolerate partial sun throughout the day.

Plant lemon balm in spring after the danger of frost has passed, either directly in the ground, in raised beds, or in containers. Keep the soil evenly moist, especially during warmer summer days, but avoid overwatering.

Lemon balm spreads quickly, so containers can help keep it manageable. Regular trimming encourages fuller, bushier growth and delays flowering.
