Continuing Education by the Bay

Dr. LeFever and UIHS are helping strengthen eye care on the North Coast through leadership, education, and collaboration. This past September, our UIHS staff optometrist, Dr. LeFever, made local history by organizing Humboldt County’s own Continuing Education Conference (CEC) for optometry, while also becoming one of the first UIHS optometrists elected to serve as the Continuing Education Liaison for the Humboldt-Del Norte California Optometric Association.

The First Annual “CE by the Bay,” held at the historic Wharfinger Building, brought together eye care professionals from across the region for two hours of specialized optometric continuing education. Sponsored by the local California Optometric Association Humboldt-Del Norte Society, the conference was created with a clear vision: to strengthen connections among local eye care providers while building opportunities to bring additional specialists and professionals to the North Coast in the future.

More than just a conference, CE by the Bay represents a growing commitment to education, collaboration, and community-centered care. The event focuses on the eye conditions most commonly seen in Humboldt and Del Norte counties, helping local providers better understand the unique needs of our region while addressing ongoing challenges related to access to care. The conference also creates valuable opportunities for local providers to learn directly from ophthalmologists serving our community. This year, both ophthalmologists from Humboldt Medical Eye Associates will be presenting lectures and sharing their expertise with attendees.

Dr. LeFever’s dedication to collaboration and communication within the local eye care community reflects UIHS’s commitment to providing the best and most convenient care possible for our patients and families. Through efforts like this conference, Dr. LeFever is helping bring the latest knowledge, technology, and treatment approaches to our region while fostering stronger partnerships among providers. UIHS would like to congratulate Dr. LeFever and recognize her outstanding leadership, vision, and commitment to improving eye care for our community.
