United Indian Health Services proudly hosted its Veterans Day Celebration on Saturday, November 8th, bringing together community members, families, staff, and most importantly, UIHS Native Veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The gathering created a space for reflection and gratitude and an opportunity to honor the strength, sacrifice, and resilience of our Veterans.
The event opened with Laura Borden welcoming everyone to the event and introducing UIHS Board members in attendance. Charlene Storr then offered a traditional food blessing that grounded the celebration in cultural identity and honored the Veterans, the land, and our native community. Carol Larsen honored all Veterans in attendance with a message about the courage of Native service members and the unique challenges they face both during and after service.

As a gesture of appreciation, each Veteran received a specially crafted commemorative Veterans Day coin and other gifts in recognition of their courage, sacrifice, and continued service to their families and communities.
UIHS was grateful to welcome several local organizations who joined the event to offer resources and support for Veterans including Nation’s Finest, CalVet, College of the Redwoods, and Native Veterans. UIHS also hosted a Suicide Prevention resource table, ensuring that Veterans and their families had access to vital wellness and mental health information.
Throughout the day, shared meals, storytelling, and heartfelt conversations created a sense of unity and appreciation. UIHS extends sincere gratitude to everyone who attended and contributed to honoring our Native Veterans. Their courage and commitment continue to inspire and strengthen our communities.
