Josh Echeverria: Medical Provider – Potawot Health Village

Josh Echeverria was born and raised in Southern California, the son of Filipino immigrants. After earning his B.S. in Animal Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, he joined the Peace Corps and spent two years in sub‑Saharan Africa as a community health volunteer. Working alongside the village’s sole physician, who served 40,000 people with almost no resources, Josh helped develop multiple health initiatives to support the community. That experience cemented his belief that access to good health is a fundamental resource, and providing it became his life’s calling.

He went on to earn his medical degree from Our Lady of Fatima University in Manila, where he developed a strong interest in rural medicine, community outreach, and urgent care. Josh then completed his Family Medicine residency in Eureka, California, as part of the program’s second class of residents. As Chief Resident, he helped shape the young program by developing its obstetrical training curriculum and creating its first training manual.

To further expand his skills, he completed fellowship training in Family Medicine with Surgical Obstetrics at Medicos Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. He now teaches fellows and provides laborist coverage at several hospitals across the state.

Josh is excited about the opportunity to return to Humboldt and work with UIHS.
