Physical Therapy at United Indian Health: Bringing Healing and Movement to You, Near and Far

UIHS CommunicationsAll News, Provider and Staff Spotlights

At United Indian Health Services (UIHS), physical therapy is for everyone – from newborns taking their first steps to elders embracing life’s later chapters.

Our Physical Therapy department provides a broad range of expert care designed to help you move better, feel stronger, and reclaim the activities you love.

Our team of five licensed therapists and two support staff, led by Dr. Dennis Hernandez, Doctor of Physical Therapy, serves our community with culturally sensitive, research-based care.

Whether you’re recovering from surgery or sports injury, managing neurological conditions like Parkinson’s or cerebral palsy, or addressing common orthopedic issues, we have a treatment plan tailored for you.

Our services also include specialized care in vestibular rehabilitation (for dizziness and vertigo), pelvic floor therapy, pregnancy-affirming care, and gender-affirming physical therapy, supporting patients post top and post bottom surgeries.

TeleHealth Physical Therapy: Expanding Access with the Same Quality Care

A major advancement in our department over the past year is TeleHealth physical therapy, led by Dr. Madison MacGregor. TeleHealth enables patients to receive physical therapy remotely through secure video sessions, making expert care accessible and convenient – especially for those who prefer staying home or face challenges traveling to the clinic.

Although telemedicine may seem new, delivering care remotely has been around for decades. Today’s technology simply enhances accessibility and effectiveness and can allow us to meet diverse needs. Older adults who want to avoid travel, busy families juggling schedules, and patients with limited transportation options.

What to Expect from TeleHealth PT

TeleHealth physical therapy at UIHS aligns closely with modern, evidence-based practices. Here’s what you can expect during your virtual sessions:

Personalized Movement and Exercise Plans: Exercise is the cornerstone of physical therapy. Your therapist will guide you through tailored exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and function.

Hands-On Techniques When Needed: While manual therapy (such as joint mobilization) is sometimes necessary, most physical therapy focuses on exercises you can perform independently. Initial assessments are typically in-person, but many follow-ups can be done remotely.

Ongoing Monitoring and Adjustments: Your therapist will observe your movements via video, track your progress, and adapt your therapy plan accordingly.

Empowerment and Education: We aim to equip you with knowledge and skills to take charge of your movement and health beyond therapy sessions.

Who Benefits from UIHS Physical Therapy?

Our patients come from all walks of life, including:

Older Adults: Many appreciate TeleHealth’s convenience and safety.

Families and Caregivers: TeleHealth facilitates therapy for children or elderly family members without the need to travel.

Neurological Patients: We support those with Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy, concussion recovery, and more.

Orthopedic Patients: Whether healing after surgery, recovering from a sports-related injury, or managing chronic joint issues, our therapists develop personalized plans.

Specialty Care Patients: Those with vestibular disorders, pelvic floor concerns, pregnancy-related conditions, and gender-affirming therapy needs find expert support here.
