
Lynn Szabo is a current Physician’s Assistant located in Crescent City at our Taa-‘at-dvn Clinic. Lynn has been a Physician’s Assistant for over 40 years and is a key member of our United Indian Health Services provider team along with being a great asset in Humboldt & Del Norte County medical field.
Lynn started her career by obtaining a bachelor’s degree in science from UC Davis. After graduating from UC Davis, she began her graduate studies at Humboldt State University in wildlife biology. After beginning at Humboldt State University, she decided to take a leave of absence that led her to travel and explore other places including, Denmark.
Once returning from her endeavors in Denmark, she began working as a diener, under a specialized Physician’s Assistant, doing autopsy’s and conducting AIDS research in San Francisco. It was during her work at this time that she was encouraged to become a Physician’s Assistant herself. She decided to go back to Humboldt State University in ’85.
Upon graduating, she decided to take a gap year to work and help pay for her continued schooling. She worked that summer as a wildland firefighter, traveling all through California. This career was one that she loved and to this day, still reminiscences on fondly.
In 1990 she moved to Humboldt County and joined Open Door Clinic along with working at multiple local hospitals, such as Sutter Coast in Crescent City. She has worked at many of the local medical practices in both Humboldt and Del Norte County and joined UIHS in 2020.
Lynn then continued her schooling at Duke University in North Carolina. She worked 40 hours a week, while also going to school full-time. She because extremely interested in infectious diseases and was the first Physician’s Assistant at Duke to be certified in infectious diseases and graduated with honors. Upon graduation she moved to San Fransico and studied internal medicine at a private practice that specialized in men with HIV.
Lynn has two daughters and currently has taken up bee keeping as a personal hobby. She also has a radio show and podcast called “Health Matters”. She truly is driven by the needs of her community and is constantly looking for more ways she can help! We are thankful to have her as part of our village.
