Commercial Tobacco Free at UIHS: Starting July 31, 2026

UIHS CommunicationsAll News, Happenings Around UIHS

Dear UIHS Community,

As many of you know, and for those who may not, UIHS will become a smoke-free organization beginning July 31, 2026.

This means that commercial tobacco products, such as cigarettes and vaping products, will no longer be used on UIHS sites by staff, clients, or visitors. We recognize and honor the cultural and ceremonial use of traditional tobacco and respect its important role in our communities.

This change is part of our commitment to creating a healthy and welcoming space for everyone. We understand that for some this will be a significant change. Tobacco use is personal and complex, and even considering change can bring up uncertainty. Our focus at UIHS is support.

If you currently use commercial tobacco products and are thinking about quitting or simply want more information, support is available when you’re ready.

Please visit www.UIHS.org/smoke-free to explore available UIHS resources, including the NATIVE Tobacco Project, led by Elidia Adams-Loya who can be reached at 707.825.5070.

You can also visit Kick It California that offers free support at www.kickitca.org.

You do not need to have a plan or make a decision today. Support will be here when you’re ready. Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

Thank you for being part of the UIHS community. We’re here to support your health and well-being.

With care,

United Indian Health Services
