Alternate, Area 1 Indian Community Representative

Carol De Lorme Larsen is of Paiute/Pit River/Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa descent and a tribal member of Susanville Indian Rancheria, a federally recognized tribe of California.  As fortune would have it, Carol’s Muha (grandmother) raised her and two brothers at an early age of eight.  She learned the ways of her ancestors, especially traditional stories, to respect all tribes’ teachings, and to have integrity.

Carol worked at United Indian Health Services (UIHS) beginning in 1976 after attending Humboldt State University (HSU).  In 1989 she returned to HSU to earn a teaching credential.  She taught for nine years then returned to UIHS in 1998 to service the local Indian community.  She has dedicated her life’s career to working with the Indian community for 31 years at UIHS and is now retired.

She became a UIHS Board member in 2021 until present.  She has been married to Erik for almost 51 years, has two children, Rikki and Derik, and three grandchildren, Bella, Talon, and Aliyah.

Carol’s most important accomplishment was raising two children to be responsible adults that give back to the Indian community.  Carol was the first All Indian Basketball Tournament director, the first director for HAWC Walk Run, the first director for the youth summer camp hosted by UIHS.  She has been a coach for softball teams, t-ball, volleyball, and Hooper’s basketball teams.
