Client Services section

Vision Services

Vision services are offered on a limited bases; usually two days per week at our main office in Arcata. These services are provided by a Medical Provider, Dr. David Davis. During your vision exam, we will screen for diseases and we will assess the condition of the eye. We can also examine your eyes to diagnose vision problems, such as nearsightedness and farsightedness. We will also test depth, color perception and ability to focus and coordinate the eyes. Our on site Physician can prescribe eyeglasses right here at Potawot Health Village.

Pharmacy Services

UIHS Pharmacy Services is dedicated to providing quality, accurate and timely service for medication processing and prescription dispensing. A full time pharmacy is located at Potawot Health Village in Arcata. We also provide a courier system which transports medications to all of the satellite clinics so clients can pick up their prescriptions at the clinic closest to their home.

Medical Services

UIHS Medical Services provides comprehensive full spectrum chronic and acute outpatient services with a focus on pro-active preventative care. Our clients range from healthy babies to active senior and across multiple generations. We strive to provide culturally sensitive care that empowers the client to be an active participant in their care.

Client Services Intro / Eligibility

Direct Health Care Services are made available to persons of "Indian descent."  For UIHS purposes, persons who meet these requirements are considered to be Eligible Indian Beneficiaries (EIB), are are eligble for the Direct Health Care Services which are provided by UIHS.  In addition, if the EIB resides within the UIHS Service Are, the spouse and the children of the EIB may also be eligible for specific UIHS Direct Health Care Services.

Contract Health Care Services are made available to UIHS Clients who meet the following eligibily requirements:

Traditional Healers and Sweats

Behavioral Health provides comprehensive mental health services which include the traditional healing practices. Traditional healers use culturally appropriate practices to aid in healing and recovery. Behavioral Health staff assists in coordinating these services and in the monthly sweats for men, women, and the coed group at PHV. We assist in transporting clients to cultural activities.

Substance Abuse Treatment Services for Youth (SATS)

United Indian Health Services, Inc. offers an youth outpatient substance abuse treatment program through the Behavioral Health department. Our program incorporates culturally appropriate services as well as the traditional twelve-step model.

Intake Assessment: Assessments are done using computer generated assessments such as Juvenile Automated Substance Abuse Evaluation (JASEA) for the youth who are seen through the substance abuse program.

Mental Health Service

Treatment is most effective when families and communities work together to provide appropriate and accessible services."We blend tradition, culture and modern treatment to help build strong, successful youth and families." We may meet you in our new Behavioral Health Integration project which places clinical social workers in the medical offices for quick consultation.

Behavioral Health

Welcome to the Behavioral Health department. We provide a wide range of services to the local Indian communities. We are working to improve the quality of life for Indian families by being sensitive to Indian traditions in the healing process. Our program provides supportive counseling to Indian children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with personal adjustments, emotional issues, or substance abuse/addictions/alcohol.
